Five Bells at Rattlesden 9th June 2021

The first live event with real people for us in 2021- under a marquee in the garden of this fine pub, with all possible Covid-19 safety procedures in place including table service and a one-way system for the toilets. Needless to say it was quite a strange feeling to be singing to real people and not screens. The evening was organised by Liz under the auspices of Bury Folk Collective so it was doubly enjoyable to be able to sing to a number of our ‘long-lost’ friends from the Collective who we had not seen for quite a while.

Headline at Cambridge Folk Club online showcase 21st May 2021

It was a real pleasure to be invited to headline this online showcase with Cambridge Folk Club. The showcase kicked off with 3 very different sets from Sarah-Louise Boyle, beautifully sung songs including a good smattering of Robbie Burns songs, followed by Hugh Boyde, with his masterful mandolin and guitar musicianship and quirky songs, and then Serena Grant, with her self-penned songs and covers. We took the opportunity to “showcase” some of the songs from our album, but also shoe-horned in a couple of older numbers from our EP.

All in all, a lovely evening and good to be playing to a very appreciative online audience who weren’t just based in Cambridge. Thanks to Marion and Robin for asking us to play.

Album launch events 5th and 7th March 2021

What a great weekend for us in finally launching our first full album Wheel and Dive. The album was successfully released on the morning of Friday 5th March and went live on our Bandcamp page, and on various streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon etc.

Friday afternoon was spent preparing our living room for the first zoom launch event and making sure the sound was working properly. At 8.00pm we began admitting the audience of family, friends and other folk to the event and kicked off proceedings with a little chat about the album, followed by 3 songs from our EP, then a little more chat, followed by our self-penned songs from the album, a bit more chat and three more songs, and our final thanks to everyone who had come to listen, concluding with a sign-off song. It was a little nerve-wracking running this event on our own, but it all worked surprisingly well and it was an absolute pleasure to have such a lovely audience join us and receive such lovely comments too..

Sunday night (7th March) was the full performance (from our living room) of the album as special guests of Blackfen Folk Clubs online club night https://www.facebook.com/BlackFenFolkClub/posts/5523941700979265 . There was some minor panic when we realised we had passed on the wrong zoom link to people (for which we apologise) but managed to contact nearly all these folk to give them the correct link with about 10 mins to spare. Our set began at about 8.15 pm with a short introduction to the album followed by a performance of each song in the order they appear on the album. It was again a real pleasure to be showcasing our music to quite an international audience, and again we received a lot of lovely comments from those folk who were watching both on the zoom and the live-stream onto the clubs Facebook page.

We would very much like to thank all of you chose to “tune-in” to these events, and to thank Blackfen Folk Club for allowing us to launch our album as their special guests. We are very much looking forward to the possibility of being able to do some live performances of the album in the near future- fingers crossed!

Cambridge Folk Club Online Showcase on 18th September 2020

Having had to decline an earlier online gig with Cambridge Folk Club in June, it was good to be re-scheduled to this showcase. Our set really benefitted from having had an airing at Langham Hall the previous weekend, and it was one of the tightest sets we have performed. It was also good fun and some lovely online comments received via the chat. Thanks to Marion and Cambridge Folk Club for inviting us to play, and also to Calvin for his tech skills.

Harvest Fair at Langham Hall Walled Garden, nr. Bury St. Edmunds 13th September 2020

Cambridge and Walker took a bit of a break from any performing over the summer, due to house-moving, but the invitation to play at this Harvest Fair, and it being a socially-distanced and live event, was to good to turn down. Firstly, it was a beautiful day, and secondly, the venue was particularly lovely too. We played an accoustic set out of an old victorian brick summer house (provided extraordinary natural amplification) to an audience sitting out on the lawn within the walled garden. It was a real pleasure to play to real people in this lovely setting and many thanks to Liz (The Larks) for inviting us to play. PS I hope to add a photo to this post when I can access it!

Blackfen Folk Club- Guests at online session 17th May 2020

In the Covid-19 ridden spring, it was very good to be asked to perform at this online session. This was the first full online gig that we had played, and whilst it was a little strange performing to the computer and having no actual audience physically present in the same space, it was good to be performing “live”. So thank you David Savage and Blackfen Folk Club for asking us to play.
